As the birth of our Blessed Lord approaches this time allows the brethren to join in the waiting for the coming of the Messiah
33 Beware, keep alert; for you do not know when the time will come. 34 It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his slaves in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to be on the watch. 35 Therefore, keep awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or at dawn, 36 or else he may find you asleep when he comes suddenly. 37 And what I say to you I say to all: Keep awake.”
Icon painting is a meditative, prayerful, and somewhat ritualized art form, in which the materials and processes as well as the image have symbolic meaning. “God’s whole creation gathers to create the icon, in the form of the all-natural animal, vegetable, and mineral products used for the board, gilding, painting, and oiling.” “A blessed icon completed by this “liturgically correct” process is considered sacred, regardless of the quality of its art work.”

“Where your treasure is there will your heart be also”. (Luke 12. 34)

There is a hymn which we sing at the Office during Passiontide, with the first line ‘Thirty years among us dwelling’. That is not so for Father Abbot, for he arrived in the house in 1967. However, 18 July 1986 saw his ordination to the Sacred Priesthood. The crafty fellow booked his monthly day off for his anniversary; so we took the opportunity to thank him at the Conventual Mass this morning for all the graces received at his priestly hands during the last thirty years . . . . and we look forward in hope to many more years of Abbot Giles’s faithful ministry.
The body of Dom Nicholas will be received into the Abbey Church at 4.00 p.m. on Tuesday 2 August 2016, in the context of Evening Prayer for the Dead.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2.30 p.m. on Wednesday 3 August 2016.
Abbot Giles asks that those who intend to be present for the Funeral Mass should let him know beforehand.
