After many years the production of wafers came to an end at the Abbey. Richard, who, following in other floury footprints, has been operating the baking machine for the past few months was greatly relieved to hang up his pinny. It’s physically hard work at all levels.
Barbara, his co-conspirator, and long-serving member of the Bakery team, missed the last bake, she was having shoulder surgery at the time. Her friendship and support of the community is a long one, (she remembers scrumping apples her as a child!) and she has worked with the community for 14 years, this month. Celebrations were delayed while she recovered. Fortunately she’s not going far, just across the way to help Brother John in the Guesthouse and Chris in the kitchen, a much needed pair of hands as we move into what promises to be a busy year.
