Quiet Day before Lent
Saturday 6th February
Come to the Abbey for a day of silence and prayer including two addresses (food for thought) as preparation for your journey through Lent.
Mass at 9am, coffee 9.45, or meet in Reception to start at 10.15am, finish 4pm.
You will need to bring a packed lunch; tea and coffee provided.
Bookings through the Guest Master, £20.00.

Oblates Retreat
The dates for Oblates Retreat will be –
Monday 15th February (meet at 16.00) – Friday 19th February (depart after lunch)
And
15th  August (meet at 16.00) – 19th  August (depart after lunch)
Opportunity for Oblates to meet for a week of Benedictine silence and prayer with daily addresses led by Fr Abbot.
Only available to the Abbey of Our Lady & St John Oblates.
Please contact the Guest Master to book your week, (places are limited).

Companions Morning
Saturday 27th February / 23rd April / 25th June / 27th August / 29th October / Saturday 3rd December
First of a series of mornings set aside for the Companions of Our Lady & St John Only. Led by Dom Anselm Shobrook OSB, with invited speakers leading discussion and prayer.
Mass at 9am, coffee 9.45, or meet in Reception to start at 10.15am, finish 12.25
or you may wish to join the community for Midday Office at 12.30.

Saturday 19th March
This is an opportunity for anyone to experience a day of Benedictine silence and prayer as preparation for their journey through Holy Week.
The day includes two addresses. Times etc. same as for “Quiet Day before Lent”.

Sunday 15th May (16.00) – Friday 20th May (14.00)
“Icon painting is a meditative, prayerful, and somewhat ritualized art form, in which the materials and processes as well as the image have symbolic meaning.
Dom Anselm OSB guides participants in writing their own icons.
£300.00 (includes accommodation, meals, all materials and equipment).

Gesso Weekend
Friday 17th June (16.00) – Sunday 19th June (14.00)
Led by – Dom Anselm OSB
“Gesso”, also known “glue gesso” or “Italian gesso” is a traditional mix of an animal glue binder (usually rabbit-skin glue), chalk, and white pigment, used to coat rigid surfaces such as wooden painting panels as an absorbent primer coat substrate for painting.
Why not prepare your own board and then go on to write an Icon? (see below) £100.00 (weekend only but includes accommodation, meals, materials and equipment).

Led by – Dom Anselm OSB
“God’s whole creation gathers to create the icon, in the form of the all-natural animal, vegetable, and mineral products used for the board, gilding, painting, and oiling.”
£300.00 (includes accommodation, meals, all materials and equipment).

Hymns in the Abbey Church
Followed by Pimm’s and nibbles in the cloister garden.

“A blessed icon completed by this “liturgically correct” process is considered sacred, regardless of the quality of its art work.”
Join Dom Anselm and create your own Icon which will be a work of art
£300.00 (includes accommodation, meals, all materials and equipment).

Gilding Weekend
Friday 2nd September (16.00) – Sunday 4th (14.00)
Led by Dom Anselm OSB £150.00
The term gilding covers a number of decorative techniques for applying fine gold leaf or powder to solid surfaces such as wood, stone, or metal to give a thin coating of gold. A gilded object is described as “gilt”.

Sunday 4th September (16.00) – Friday 9th September (14.00)
Led by – Dom Anselm OSB
Final opportunity to join Dom Anselm and spend a week creating your own Icon.
Numbers limited on all the Icon writing weeks so book early to avoid disappointment.£300.00 (includes accommodation, meals, all materials and equipment)

The community Annual silent retreat.
Saturday 17th September – Sunday 25th September
The guest house and Abbey will be closed during this time, and with very limited communication. You will however be able to attend the Devine Offices and the Daily Conventual Mass

This is an opportunity for to come to the Abbey, alone or with a friend for a day of Benedictine silence and prayer. In preparation for the journey through Advent there will be two addresses.

As the birth of our Blessed Lord approaches join us in the waiting for the coming of the Messiah As we sing Advent Hymns & Anthems Wth Choirmaster Richard Potter and the Choir of St Mary the Virgin, Frensham
